The only explained reason is that she wants to move on.

Teri has another projects in her hand and also she is in the early stages of developing a sitcom. If Teri leaves the show, there seems no future of Desperate Housewives. I don’t think Desperate Housewives will be able to work without Teri. It is the series, which helped re-launch her career. Reportedly, she is paid $185,000 per episode of the show.
